Vamizi Island Mozambique

Scuba Diving at Vamizi

Scuba diving at Vamizi Island is second to none. The resort has access to an impressive array of dive sites, suitable for both novice and advanced divers. The waters surrounding this private island resort are warm all year round with clear visibility, ideal conditions for exceptional diving opportunities. Vamizi is now rated as one of the top Mozambique dive destinations for very good reason.

Vamizi Island is blessed with an abundance of pristine coral reefs – some 46 species, which support over four hundred tropical fish species. With so many dive sites available to explore, and many more yet to be discovered, guests are indeed spoilt for choice.

A holiday at Vamizi Island affords you access to dive the world renowned ‘Neptune’s Arm’, one of the top ten scuba sites on the planet. This site is a sight for sore eyes, with its coral gardens that fall down the edge of a cliff, jam-packed with fish. The now world famous Metundo Canyon is a short boat trip away. Expect to see huge shoals of barracuda and other pelagics. Green and Hawksbill turtles are also common, and the highlight of the dive will be the abundance of grey reef sharks and probably some other decent shark sightings under the water. If you are a fan of wall diving then the abyss just off Vamizis eastern point will not disappoint you with its deep caves and massive resident potato bass.

Some of the aquatic species you are guaranteed sightings of include the grey reef shark, turtles, barracuda, hammerhead shark and batfish, to name a few. Those who are keen on snorkeling will find the sites close to the island just as enchanting.

If you want your holiday at Vamizi Island entirely centered around diving, the best time to visit is from September to November. The sea is a lot calmer during this time of the year plus the ocean currents are not as strong. Bespoke Mozambique spear fishing expeditions can also be arranged that combine the Vamizi dive sites with Metundo and Lazarus Banks.
