Access to Pemba Mozambique

Finding your way to paradise in Mozambique via Pemba is not that bad – Vamizi Island lies a short flight away from Pemba and once you have landed in the tiny plane on the private runway, you jump into a vehicle to be taken over rough coral terrain to your little piece of heaven. Learn more about Pemba here.

Fly low over the pristine Quirimbas Archipelago and look out for whales, dolphins, giant rays, the changing colours of reefs, sandbanks, deltas, mangrove forests and fishing villages – all part of a dreamy existence in Africa. Access to and from Pemba is usually by light aircraft, an exciting addition to every holiday on this superb island, taking about 45 minutes.

You can also access Vamizi from Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania – international flights from Europe, the Middle East and Africa land here. These flights take over two hours and stop at Mocimboa da Praia, a tiny town on the Mozambique coast where visitors clear immigration and customs.

Direct flights from Johannesburg and Maputo land regularly at Pemba and guests can also book beach-bush packages so that they continue their holiday in the bushveld of either Mozambique or South Africa, once they have left Vamizi behind, regretfully.

Once you have flown back to Pemba, previously known as Porto Amelia, you can get to Niassa Wildlife Reserve to see untouched African vistas and fascinating wildlife sightings. It is also fun to stay in Pemba for a few days to dive from Wimbe Beach in Pemba Bay – you will see amazing marine animals and underwater landscapes.  The beach is also a great place to swim and relax.

Walk the streets to see the colonial Portuguese architecture and signs that the Arabs lived here many years ago. Buy a souvenir at the huge market and eat succulent prawns at one of many restaurants. Accommodation in wonderful villas and hotels ensure you are comfortable and have fun before your adventure to Vamizi Island, pure paradise.
